Bump. I'm still interested in this, and am glad that I just found that I still have the list on my computer. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Here's the list as it stands (which is significantly larger than the latest version posted above:

I'm compiling a list for submission as a theme in the ANN Encyclopedia—what anime series are focused* on ghost busting/monster hunting (dealing with and disposing of supernatural menaces, often with extreme prejudice)?

          * [A] theme should represent a core element of the story; for example Princess Nine has tennis in a few episodes but it is not an anime about tennis. Ask yourself if you would watch this title only for the X, where X is the theme you want to add.
(Emphasis in the original.) Hentai is fine, but again the focus should be on the ghost busting/monster hunting, not being captured and turned into sex slaves (especially in the first episode of a multi-episode series >_<). Japan-only series are also fine.

          So far I have:

          "Normal":
          • 07-Ghost
          • Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales

Thanks. I've added the first two, and classified the second two s possibles. I'm familiar in general with GeGeGe no Kitarō, but I'm wondering if there are any differences in approach or focus between the various series.

That's from an old version of the list, and I removed it some time ago.

I assume you mean "Bleach", to which I've added a summary of your reasons and which I've moved the "possible" list.

To the best of my knowledge (most of?) those don't fit in the "supernatural menaces" category. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't quite understand "As on account of", but I believe you mean that it should be included, so I've upgraded it from a possible. I'll post the revised list right after I finish this and answering any other posts that have been made in the meantime.

"Mariner Moon"? Oh--"Sailor Moon". I take it English is not your first language? Don't worry--you write it well. [Err--I hope that's not too condescending. <sweatdrop> I only meant to compliment you.]

BTW, I edited your post to delete three links to the commercial porn sites Brazzers, Youporn, and Xhamster from it. Since your post is constructive, I believe their inclusion was a mistake, or a result of your posting software or site, but please do be more careful in the future--some of the the other moderators are much less lenient and more, err, excitable, than I. Such links could easily lead to you being banned from this site.

I've only seen the first three episodes, but while it is a show centered around the supernatural, its Wikipedia article's plot summary does not indicate any ghost busting or monster hunting. Is that incorrect?

It's probably more based on emotional monsters, if that makes sense?

More along the line of humans are scarier than monsters it seemed to me

As far as the current incarnation of Gegege no Kitaro, I'm afraid this is my first exposure to the series, so I really can't compare. As to why I think it maybe a questionable fit, while it's true that almost every episode involves Kitaro interceding in a situation where humans & yokai are at odds, it's frequently the result of a misunderstanding and is sometimes resolved amicably, or at the very least it's a situation where the human is as much at fault. Even in cases where the yokai is genuinely malicious (Buckbeard & Nanashi for example), the series usually draws a parallel between them and the darker human emotions.

Mob Psycho 100 does involve spirits and exorcism, but also has confrontations between espers and shadow organiztions as well. Besides, when you mention "ghostbusting" I can't help but think of the resemblence between Dimple and Slimer

It does, but that's significant strike against it for inclusion in the list.

Which doesn't help its case, either.

What about Berserk? Granted, the monster hunting is more exclusive to the manga as it continues from where the 90's anime left off, but it should still count.

The title character is a psychic/esper sort who can see spirits.

What about The Morose Monokean or Natsume's Book of Friends? Each episode deals with yokai of some sort.
